Bitcoin, the leading digital currency by market capitalization, has grown in value by more than 10 times at certain points over the past year, but it has also seen significant plunges in value. Still, a number of cryptocurrencies have managed to come out on top. (See also: Bitcoin Price Takes Backstage as Altcoins Rally.)
To say that 2017/2018 has been a big year for digital currencies would not begin to do the industry justice. In the span of just months, digital currencies skyrocketed in value, interest, and number, only to see their values plummet once again, before leveling off. There are new digital currencies being launched to investors every week, and a hoard of blockchain-related startups have followed in their footsteps, often bolstered by major fundraising efforts through ICOs.
In the world of virtual currencies, fortunes tend to move up and down quickly. The space is dominated by volatility above many other factors. These are the largest digital currencies by market cap as of mid-July 2018.
1. Bitcoin
Bitcoin is the original cryptocurrency and it remains the go-to leader of the space. As of this writing, the market capitalization of the world's top digital currency is more than $125 billion, with a price per coin of more than $7,305.
There are roughly 17.1 million BTC in circulation, according to coinmarketcap.com. This is all in spite of earlier speculation about a Flippening, in which other digital currencies would permanently take over the No. 1 spot. That has yet to transpire. (See more: "The Flippening": Will Ethereum Take Bitcoin's Place?)
2. Ethereum
Ethereum, the digital token which prompted the rise of the initial coin offering (ICO), comes in second on our list of cryptocurrencies by market cap. It is significantly smaller than bitcoin; the current market cap is just shy of $50 billion, with a trading price of about $500 per token. There are just over 100.7 million ETH tokens in circulation as of this writing.
3. Ripple
The No. 3 slot goes to the much-hyped Ripple, with a total market capitalization of more than $19.8 billion. Unlike the top two digital currencies (as well as the one directly following it), the price of each XRP token is very small. As of this writing, it's just over 50 cents per token. On the other hand, the total number of XRP in circulation is quite high. There are over 39 billion tokens in circulation now.
4. Bitcoin Cash
Bitcoin cash, the spin-off of bitcoin which launched as a result of a hard fork, comes in fourth in our ranking. The total market cap of this digital currency is about $14.5 billion, with a market price of $843 per coin and a total circulation of just over 17.2 million BCH.
5. EOS
Rounding out the top five is EOS, with a market cap of $7.83 billion and a total circulation of more than 896 million tokens.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has spotted a very large asteroid heading towards the Earth. The asteorid has been dubbed by NASA as 'potentially hazardous'. The agency says it could kill millions of people because of its size. The rock is named asteroid 52768 (1998 OR2). Scientists have forecast that the asteroid will make it's closest orbit to the earth on April 29.
NASA however said the asteroid will only make a 'close pass' with the Earth. It will be about 6 million kilometers close to the earth.
New Delhi: On April 29, the coronavirus is also causing a panic, which can end the whole world. There is going to be a terrible astronomical event on this day, about which everyone is afraid. On social media, some people are claiming through a video that the world will end on 29 April. A lot of users have shared this video with this imaginary claim of the same Holocaust. You will also have found a video related to this news through WhatsApp. You should not pay attention to these rumors at all. NASA recently released a notification. Accordingly, an asteroid named "52768 (1998 OR2)" will pass near the Earth on April 29, 2020. It is being told that the size of this asteroid is very large. According to the report, its size is half the size of the Himalayan Mountains.

He said HND Architecture graduates are excluded from registration as they did not possess the requisite skill and knowledge to practise the profession in its purest sense; as the limitation of years of study does not afford them the opportunity to complete the modules.
He spoke on the sidelines of his 67th birthday celebration in Osborne Foreshore Estate, Ikoyi, Lagos at the weekend.
He wondered why some find it difficult to improve themselves academically but are desirous of appellations they are not qualified for.
He recalled that he started out as a draughtsman/carpenter before gaining admission to the university where it took him eight years to qualify as an architect.
Calling for middle cadre professionals, he said in countries, such as China, Canada, middle manpower make more money than certified architects.
He said having weathered the storm between the Nigeria Institute of Architects (NIA) and ARCON on matters relating to examination malpractice and sanctioning erring architects, the body insists that only candidates with requisite professional training modules can be registered to practise and that HND architecture graduates do not have that.
Ajayi said this measure was taken to ensure that architecture graduates were well-groomed in design and delivery to avoid being linked with unwholesome practices and conducts.
According to him, ARCON is convinced more than ever that only the qualified are good enough to be registered as the profession plays a leading role in the building sector.
He said: “To accommodate the HND graduates and take them through modules to get them qualified to be registered, we came up with a programme known as Architect Regularisation Programme (ARP) to allow them make up the modules to qualify to be registered.
‘’We have also made provisions for them to formally seek admission to any university of their choice as long they are approved by the Nigeria Universities Commission to offer architecture to upgrade and obtain the required knowledge. Currently over 30 universities in the country offer architecture we advise that they take advantage of the various platforms the body has provided. As a body we are of the opinion that the complexities involved in architecture are much more that can be learned in four years in a polytechnic.”
On how he would reconcile the Federal Government’s annoucement on bridging the dichotomy between BSc and HND, Ajayi acknowledged the announcement but insisted that ARCON was not mandated to uphold it by registering those it believes, or by facts available, are not qualified to be addressed as architects.
He said the body had approached the Ministry of Education and the National Universities Commission to tinker with modules of Architecture training in universities to bring them at par with present realities and also make them competitive with universities abroad.

New search option will help fight the spread of misinformation
WhatsApp is testing a new feature that will help you check online to see if what is said in the messages you receive is actually true. A new search function will enable people to fact-check message and obtain greater context about what is being said.
Fake news and misinformation have been something of a problem online for a while now, but when a global crisis strikes, it's particularly noticeable. Social media is a hotbed of maliciously false – as well as just misguided – information, and more and more platforms are fighting back.
- WhatsApp's new coronavirus hub is a one-stop shop for facts on the pandemic
- Find out how to get WhatsApp dark mode
- Finally, WhatsApp is bringing back self-destructing messages
Facebook and Twitter have already introduced fact-checking services, and moderators are jumping on certain messages about coronavirus in case they spread dangerously inaccurate information. WhatsApp just launched a coronavirus data hub, and it is currently testing a new search option.
A spokesperson for the company told TechCrunch: "We are working on new features to help empower users to find out more information about the messages they receive that have been forwarded many times".
Twitter user @shrinivassg shared screenshots of how things are looking in the beta version of the messaging app:
The new feature will enable WhatsApp users to perform a web search based on the contents of messages that have been forwarded to them. This will hopefully make it easier for people to determine the reliability of a message, and to think twice before mindlessly forwarding it on.
There is no precise timetable for when this feature will roll out to the main version of the app. For now, WhatsApp says: "This feature is currently in testing, and we look forward to rolling it out in the near future".
